Betsy Wilkening, a teacher at Wilson K-8 in the Amphitheater Unified School District, was selected for inclusion in the National Geographic Grosvenor Teacher Fellows program.

Wilkening is one of 14 teachers in the U.S. to earn the distinction. She'll spend part of the summer in the Arctic, aboard an expedition ship.

“I am really looking forward to creating lessons to develop student understanding of Arctic geography and native communities,” Wilkening said in a news release.

The program honors former National Geographic Society Chairman Gilbert M. Grosvenor.
