Benjie Sanders started at the Daily Star in 1970, just after graduating from high school. He worked in the library and eventually moved to photography while attending the University of Arizona, where he was on the track team for three years.

In Benjie's words: "I have covered all kinds of assignments and have had the opportunity to meet some of the most interesting people I never would have met if I had not been working for the paper."

"People always ask me, since you have been with the paper so many years, what is the most interesting assignment you have covered? It is hard to answer that one because the great thing about being a photojournalist is that if you keep your eyes and ears open you learn something from every one. Sure, I have covered some major events such as Super Bowls, Final Fours and the rich and famous, but every now and then, I run into someone I took a picture of them or their child years ago and they still remember me and thank me again."
