Border Patrol agents arrested one person and seized nearly 235 pounds of marijuana after discovering a cross-border tunnel in Nogales.

Agents, working with Mexican law enforcement, discovered the incomplete water-filled tunnel on Aug. 7 about 100 yards west of the DeConcini Port of Entry.

Once drained, agents saw the tunnel extended 42 feet into the United States and was equipped with electrical wiring and ventilation pipes. Agents also found sugar sacks that were used to carry excess dirt and also several tools.

On Aug. 13, agents arrested one individual trying to smuggle 10 bundles of marijuana through the tunnel. The marijuana is worth about $117,000.

Agents are monitoring the tunnel until it can be filled in.
