PHOENIX — A transgender man in Arizona who gave birth after beginning to change from female to male is accused of stalking his estranged wife.

Thomas Trace Beatie was released from a Maricopa County jail on his own recognizance Thursday night after being booked on one count of stalking.

Phoenix police say the victim, who charging documents identified as Beatie's spouse, found a GPS tracking device under her car Sept. 15 and reported it to authorities.

Investigators say Beatie, who has been pursuing a divorce, admitted to installing the device two years ago and monitoring it though an online account. Beatie also told police he would recharge the GPS whenever the battery life was low.

According to court documents, a public defender will be appointed to represent Beatie.

David Higgins, an attorney for Nancy Beatie, says he is working to get an order of protection to keep Thomas Beatie away from his client.
