A man killed during a home invasion southwest of Tucson early Saturday morning was one of the armed robbers, a sheriff’s official said.
The incident started about 1:20 a.m. with a hang-up call to 911 from a house in the 14400 block of West Kestrel Road, near Arizona 86 and South Sierrita Mountain Road.
“A neighbor heard sounds of distress coming from the (home) and went to investigate,” Deputy Tracy Suitt, spokesman for the department, said in a news release. “He followed the sounds that led him to a neighbor’s property where he encountered one of the armed suspects. Gunshots were exchanged and the suspect, who has not been identified, was fatally wounded.”
Deputies arrived to find a wounded man inside the house. The man died a short time later, Suitt said.
No further information was available Saturday night.
