An Avra Valley mobile home fire is being investigated as an arson, officials said.

The fire was reported at about 10 a.m. Friday at a home in the area of West Scrub Brush Road and North Shadows Desert Lane. The home was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived on scene.

“Once on scene firefighters noticed a man running from the scene and that individual was being chased by Pima County Sheriff K-9 unit,” Patrick Calhoun, spokesman for the Avra Valley Fire District, said in a news release.

It took eight firefighters 14 minutes to extinguish the fire, Calhoun said.

The home was a total loss.

The fire is under investigation by arson detectives, Deputy Tom Peine, spokesman for the Pima County Sheriff’s Department, said.
