Crews from Northwest Fire District were busy late Saturday morning at two traffic accidents that occurred at about the same time.

A two-vehicle crash just before 11:30 a.m. at North Oracle and West Rudasill roads, left a 64-year-old man trapped in his sedan. Firefighters had to use the Jaws of Life to pry open the door and free him, Capt. Adam Goldberg, spokesman for the fire district, said in an email.

The man was taken by ground ambulance to the University of Arizona Medical Center in serious but stable condition.

Arizona Department of Public Safety officers were investigating the collision, Goldberg said.

The second two-vehicle crash occurred at North Oracle and West Ina roads. A 34-year-old woman was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries, Goldberg said.

The rainy weather may have been a factor in both accidents, he said.
