A 21-year-old man was killed in a one-vehicle crash Monday morning at Benson Highway and Kino Parkway, police said.

Devante Michael Carranza, who was a passenger in the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene of the 3:43 a.m. crash, said Sgt. Chris Widmer, a Tucson Police Department spokesman.

The 22-year-old woman driver was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries, Widmer said.

A 911-caller reported the crash.

Traffic detectives said the driver was heading north on South Kino Parkway in a 2009 Pontiac G6 and the car struck a cement wall on the eastside of Kino, Widmer said.

The car rolled and the driver was thrown from the car, said Widmer.

Detectives suspect alcohol and speed were factors in the crash, Widmer said.

This is the sixth fatality in the city, compared to four at this time last year, said Widmer.
