A Bisbee man whose car went off the road Tuesday likely died before the traffic incident, officials said.

Driver David Star, 66, was found dead in the driver’s seat with his seat belt on, Officer Raul Molina, spokesman for the Arizona Department of Public Safety, said in a news release.

He had been driving southbound on State Route 80 about four miles south of Tombstone, when his red Toyota Four Runner crossed the center line and drove off the east side of the road, Molina said. The vehicle traveled about 400 feet in to the desert before it came to a stop.

“The investigation is on going as to the cause of death, but initial indications are he suffered a fatal medical event which preceded the collision,” Molina said.
