A 22-year-old Mexican woman living in Douglas was arrested last Friday for trying to smuggle 330 pounds of marijuana across the border.
The woman was driving a Suzuki SUV through the Douglas port of entry, when a drug-sniffing dog alerted to the presence of narcotics in the vehicle.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers found 260 packages of marijuana, with an estimated street value of $165,000, hidden in the doors, undercarriage and engine compartment of the SUV.
The woman was arrested and referred to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations. The drugs and vehicles were seized.
