Deputies are looking for a thief who stole a woman’s purse as she shopped at Wal-Mart earlier this month.

The theft occurred at about 9 p.m. Aug. 7, at 2823 W. Valencia Road and West Ajo Highway.

Store surveillance video shows the man walking down an aisle in the produce section. As the 63-year-old victim is turned away from her cart, the man grabs the purse out of the basket and runs away. The woman chased after him with her cart but couldn’t keep up.

“The suspect appeared to be a known shoplifter at this business,” Deputy Tom Peine, a spokesman for the Pima County Sheriff’s Department, said in a news release.

The thief was described as a young Hispanic man, approximately 5-feet-8-inches tall, wearing a dark T-shirt and shorts and a red ball cap.

Anyone with information about the incident or the thief should call 911 or 88-CRIME.
