Alcohol was a factor in a head-on collision Friday night in Picture Rocks, a sheriff’s official said.

A man driving a gray Ford Ranger pickup truck eastbound on Picture Rocks Road at about 9 p.m. crossed into oncoming traffic and crashed head-on with a white Dodge Ram pickup, Deputy Jesus Bañuelos, spokesman for the Pima County Sheriff’s Department, said in a news release.

The crash occurred in the 10400 block of West Picture Rocks Road near North Van Ark Road.

The man driving the Ranger “was found in his truck going in and out of consciousness,” Bañuelos said. He was taken to a local hospital in serious condition. The man driving the Ram sustained minor injuries, but was transported to the hospital as a precautionary measure.

“Alcohol was a factor in this collision, and a preliminary blood test indicated that the driver of the Ford Ranger was more than double the legal limit,” Bañuelos said.

The investigation is ongoing.
