An elderly man who went out for a walk Monday morning was found dead in the desert near his home about 12 hours later, authorities said.
John Freeman, 83, left his home in the 16000 block of South Shoshone Trail at about 11:30 a.m., said Deputy Courtney Rodriguez, a Pima County Sheriff's Department spokeswoman. he was found at around 11:30 Monday night about a mile southwest of his home.
"There was nothing suspicious noted or any obvious signs of trauma," Rodriguez said.
Freeman, who could be forgetful and had a medical condition, lived near Benson, but his property is within Pima County, said Rodriguez. The property is near Mescal Road and Interstate 10.
He was known to walk in the area of East Tonopah Trail and South Susquehanna Avenue. He walked up to 90 minutes at a time, Rodriguez said.
