A 76-year-old woman escaped from her southside home using her walker after a man broke into her house Tuesday.

The woman called 911 from her cordless phone shortly before 2:30 p.m. Deputies responded to a burglary in progress call in the 5300 block of South Bonney Avenue, said Deputy Tracy Suitt, a Pima County Sheriff's Department spokesman.

The neighborhood is near East Drexel and South Country Club roads.

Deputies arrived nine minutes after the 911 call and surrounded the house. Contact was made with the man inside the house, and he followed the deputies commands and came out and was taken into custody, said Suitt.

Vincent Linarez, 31, was arrested and booked into the Pima County jail on suspicion of second-degree burglary and theft. He also was wanted on a misdemeanor warrant, Suitt said.
