Two drivers were killed in a fiery early morning crash on Tucson’s southeast side Monday.

A commercial tractor-trailer rig was headed west when it crossed the median near Kolb Road and began to roll over at 3:42 a.m., according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

The rig collided with a car in the eastbound lanes. The car burst into flames, and the fire spread to the rig, the DPS said.

The fire was extinguished two hours later, according to DPS. Both drivers died in the crash.

The wreckage caused major delays, closing eastbound I-10 at Kolb Road and the westbound lanes at Rita Road for hours.

Westbound lanes were reopened five hours after the crash, while eastbound lanes were fully reopened about an hour later.

No other information was released Monday.
