Former Tucson police officer Martin Ward, 29, was arrested by U.S. Marshals late Friday night in Prescott.

An arrest warrant had been issued for Ward, who is suspected of distributing child pornography on the Internet, Sgt. Chris Widmer, spokesman for the Tucson Police Department, said. Ward was arrested at a motel without incident.

Ward was hired as a police officer in April 2007. In December 2012, he resigned from the department in lieu of termination as a result of an unrelated internal investigation, Widmer said.

In March, detectives began investigating online sharing and distribution of child pornography in the Tucson area. Thursday police searched a residence in the 9200 block of East Palm Tree Drive, near East 22nd Street and South Harrison Road, and found several videos depicting child pornography, Widmer said.
