A fraudster has looted more than $25,000 from the checking accounts of two Oro Valley women whose cars were broken into earlier this year.

In January, several vehicles were broken into while parked in the lot of the L.A. Fitness at 8850 N. Oracle Road near West Hardy Road.

But it wasn’t until mid-March that a woman began using their credentials to fraudulently cash checks in the Phoenix area, said Lt. Kara Riley, spokeswoman for the Oro Valley Police Department.

“We count on the bad guys to use the victims stuff so we can catch them,” Riley said, “but nothing happened for two months.”

The woman was seen on surveillance cameras at bank drive-thrus using identification belonging to the victims to cash checks from their accounts, Riley said.

The suspect appears to be a white woman, between the ages of 45 and 50. She has brown hair and drives a newer model black or dark gray Mercedes S-Class.

Anyone with information about the break-ins or who knows the identity of the suspect should call suspect should call 911, 88-CRIME or Oro Valley Police Department at 229-4900.
