Shred, dispose, dump — several events Saturday will help residents do just that.

City and county officials have organized three events to dispose of unwanted medication, shred personal documents and get rid of household hazardous waste.

Shred-A-Thon — Representatives from the Pima County Sheriff’s Department will be collecting personal documents at a drive-through Shred-A-Thon to help county residents avoid identity theft. The event runs from 8 to 11 a.m. in the parking lot of the Kino Sports Complex, 2500 E. Ajo Way, west of South Country Club Road. Attendants will transfer documents from vehicles to bins for shredding.

Dispose-A-Med — Sheriff’s representatives will be collecting unwanted medication at a Dispose-A-Med event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. outside the Walmart Neighborhood Market at 2175 W. Ruthrauff Road at North La Cholla Boulevard. Prescription and over-the-counter tablets, capsules, liquids and creams will be collected. Metal or glass inhalation aerosol bottles, syringes and EpiPens will not be accepted.

Hazardous Waste Program — City environmental service workers will be collecting hazardous household materials from 8 a.m. to noon at Himmel Park, 1000 N. Tucson Blvd., just south of East Speedway.

Accepted materials include: Automotive fluids and batteries, rechargeable batteries from electronic equipment, toxic cleaning products, fluorescent lamps, paints, solvents, lawn and garden products, and computer equipment. The service is free except for computer monitors dropped off without the rest of the computer. For monitors only, the fee is $2. The program accepts only materials generated in homes.
