A 5-year-old pedestrian was struck by a vehicle Saturday evening, suffering life-threatening injuries, a sheriff's official said.

Chief Deputy Chris Nanos of the Pima County Sheriff's Department gave the following account in a news release:

At about 6:40 p.m., Foothills District deputies responded to a collision involving the 5-year-old girl and a vehicle in the 2100 block of East Orange Grove Road. When deputies arrived, they learned the collision occurred as the 5-year-old and her 7-year-old brother were crossing Orange Grove.

The 5-year-old was taken to the local trauma center.

No other information was immediately released.
