A Green Valley Fire District firefighter sustained a minor injury battling a house fire Saturday morning and was taken to a Tucson hospital for evaluation.

The fire caused an estimated $100,000 damage to a home in the 2200 block of north Avenida Del Polen in Green Valley, said a news release issued by Green Valley Fire District Chief Chuck Wunder.

Fire crews were dispatched at about 9:45 a.m. and arrived to find heavy smoke and flames coming from the home's garage.

About 18 firefighters brought the fire under control in 12 minutes, containing most of the fire to the garage and adjacent areas.

The owner of the home had reported hearing a popping noise in the garage and then soon noticed smoke coming into the house. The owner evacuated to his backyard but was unable to get out because of a locked gate. "Firefighters quickly found the man and helped him to a safe location," the news release said.
