Sheriff’s officials say someone hacked the Facebook account of a teen girl and posted a confession in the death of another girl.

Saturday morning investigators began receiving information about a confession posted on the Facebook page of a 13-year-old Tucson girl.

The posts related to the death of another Tucson 13-year-old, Maribel Victoria Gonzales, a runaway whose body was found June 6 in the desert near North Trico Road about half a mile south of West Avra Valley Road on the northwest side. The body was identified Friday.

The sheriff’s department and local media outlets began receiving online queries about the confession early Saturday morning, said Deputy Tracy Suitt, spokesman for the Pima County Sheriff’s Department.

At that time the teen didn’t even know her account had been hacked, Suitt said.

Neither of the girls knew each other, he said.

Homicide detectives are investigating the death of Gonzales, however a cause of death has yet to be determined.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is urged to call 911 or 88-CRIME.
