A Tucson man is facing a charge of second-degree murder in a Thursday traffic death.

Anthony William Thierry, 25, was booked into the Pima County jail on one count each of second-degree murder, endangerment and felony criminal damage.

“It appears that alcohol, and possibly other substances, may have played a role in the collision,” Sgt. Pete Dugan, a spokesman for the Tucson Police Department, said in a news release.

Thierry was driving a 2000 Toyota Tundra southbound on South Kolb Road between East Valencia and East Irvington roads about 2 p.m. when he crossed the raised median and struck a northbound 2000 Toyota Avalon head-on, Dugan said.

The driver — and sole occupant — of the Avalon, 66-year old John R. MacIntire, was pronounced dead at a hospital.

Thierry and his passenger were uninjured, Dugan said.
