A Hereford man was arrested Thursday and faces multiple counts of sexual conduct with a minor.

Jeremy James Belden, 24, was booked into the Cochise County jail on five counts of sexual conduct with a minor, and one count each of luring a minor for sexual exploitation, aggravated luring of a minor for sexual exploitation and conspiracy to commit sexual exploitation of a minor, said Cpl. Scott Borgstadt, a Sierra Vista Police Department spokesman.

Belden is being held in lieu of a $50,000 bond.

Detectives of the police department's special operations bureau began an investigation earlier this month after a tip about alleged inappropriate relations between a man and a minor, said Borgstadt.

Detectives learned Belden met the girl in an Internet chat room where the two discussed having sex. They later met to carry out their plans, Borgstadt said.

He said evidence indicates that Belden knew the girl was underage, but still met her for a sexual encounter, and continued to solicit sex from her.
