An SUV crash in front of a university-area eatery during the lunch rush Wednesday injured three women, a fire official said.

The crash occurred just after 1 p.m. at Chipotle Mexican Grill, 905 E. University Blvd., near North Tyndall Avenue, said Sgt. Chris Widmer, a spokesman for the Tucson Police Department.

The SUV backed over the curb, struck a bench and the bench was pushed into the front door of the restaurant, Widmer said.

It is unclear if the victims were hit by the bench or the SUV, Widmer said.

Three college-age women were taken to a hospital, said Capt. Chris Jurvig, a spokesman for the Tucson Fire Department. All had non-life-threatening injuries, though one suffered more extensive injuries.

The woman driving the SUV was cited for a traffic violation, unsafe backing, Widmer said.
