Man dies 5 days
after SW-side crash
A man seriously injured in a DUI-related crash Sunday has died.
Antonio Guzman-Miranda, 23, died Friday at a local hospital, Sgt. Chris Widmer, spokesman for the Tucson Police Department, said in a news release.
The crash occurred just after 7 a.m. Aug. 3 as Guzman-Miranda was driving a 2008 Nissan Altima at high speeds on the south side.
Guzman-Miranda was driving in the median lane of South Mission Road and moved to the curb lane to pass another car. At West Mission Place, south of West Ajo Way, he lost control of the Nissan, slid sideways and hit a tree in the median, Widmer said.
“Alcohol and drugs are believed to be a factor in the collision,” Widmer said.
Mexico turns over
The U.S. Marshals Service says a man wanted in Phoenix for allegedly sexually abusing a minor was caught thanks to Mexican authorities.
U.S. Marshal David Gonzales of the Arizona District said Saturday that 45-year-old James Kroll is being held in Pima County jail, awaiting extradition to Maricopa County.
Gonzalez says Mexican officials found Kroll on Thursday based on information from U.S. authorities and deported him through the Lukeville Port of Entry.
Authorities issued a warrant July 8 for his arrest.
They say Kroll is accused of committing numerous indecent sexual acts with a 13-year-old between 2008 and 2010 in Phoenix.
He faces charges of luring a minor for sexual exploitation, furnishing obscene or harmful items to minors, and sexual indecency to a minor.
