A man and a woman were injured in an early morning shooting at a foothills apartment complex.

The victims were driving away from the complex in the 4500 block of East Sunrise Drive, near North Swan Road, around 1 a.m. when someone began firing at the vehicle, said Deputy Tracy Suitt, a Pima County Sheriff's Department spokesman.

The man and woman were injured but got out of the vehicle and hid until deputies arrived, Suitt said.

Both were taken to the trauma center at the University of Arizona Medical Center.

The man had life-threatening injuries, but after having surgery he is expected to be OK, Suitt said.

The woman had injuries that were not considered life threatening.

Suitt said the victims don't know who shot at them.
