A Tucson man who apparently lost control of his motorcycle, was found dead Thursday morning near a south side roadway.

At about 1:35 a.m. a Tucson police officer was driving in the area of South Alvernon Way and East Technical Drive when he saw a motorcycle laying on the side of the road near the intersection. The officer found the body of 25-year-old Nicholas J. Vasquez some distance away from the motorcycle, Sgt. Maria Hawke, spokeswoman for the Tucson Police Department, said in a news release.

Detectives determined Vasquez was riding his yellow 2003 Honda motorcycle southbound on South Alvernon Way at a high rate of speed.

“For unknown reasons, he lost control of the motorcycle and collided with the guardrail on the right side of the roadway,” Hawke said. “He was thrown from the motorcycle, which continued traveling further until it came to a stop.”

Vasquez was wearing a helmet.
