A 19-year-old man was shot in the finger Saturday night when he tried to prevent two men from breaking into his foothills apartment. 

Two men tried to force their way into an apartment in the Park Place Apartments, 11 E. Orange Grove Road, shortly after 9 p.m., Deputy Tracy Suitt, a Pima County Sheriff's department spokesman said in an news release. 

The resident tried to keep the men out by holding the door and one of the suspects put a gun through an opening in the door and fired it, striking the man in the finger, the release said. 

The men then left the area. 

The victim was taken to the hospital for treatment. 

Anyone with information is asked to call 911 or 88-CRIME (882-7463).
