A Florence man, suspected of molesting a teen for a decade, was arrested Thursday in Pinal County.

The investigation started after a 19-year-old woman confided to a friend that a family acquaintance had been molesting her for 10 years, Tim Gaffney, spokesman for the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office, said in a news release. The friend, who was concerned for the teen’s safety, called law enforcement.

During an interview with investigators, the woman said family acquaintance, Luis Ramirez, 51, had repeatedly sexually molested and assaulted her since she was 9-years-old, Gaffney said.

“The last sexual conduct occurred one month prior. Ramirez attempted to sexually assault the female again this month but she refused and he became very upset,” Gaffney said. “The victim said she hasn’t come forward with the information to family, friends or law enforcement because she felt nobody would believe her.”

When the 19-year-old’s mother found out about the investigation, she “confronted Ramirez regarding the allegations. The mother told him she wanted to shoot him because of what he did to her daughter and Ramirez told her that she would be justified if she did,” Gaffney said.

Ramirez was booked into the Pinal County jail and faces charges of child molestation, sexual abuse and sexual conduct with a minor.

“During the investigation, Ramirez made admissions which confirmed some of the victim’s allegations,” Gaffney said.
