A man who was shot and killed Wednesday morning by a Pima County sheriff’s deputy was in Tucson on leave from the military to attend the funeral of his father who killed himself last month at the same home, a sheriff’s official said.

At about 7:30 a.m. deputies arrived at a home in the 7500 block of South Woodbury Grove Drive near South Wade and West Valencia roads, after receiving a 911 call about a suicidal man, said Deputy Courtney Rodriguez, spokeswoman for the Pima County Sheriff’s Department.

The man barricaded himself in his home, Rodriguez said. Neighbors were evacuated from their homes and SWAT was called in to assess the situation.

A deputy eventually shot and killed a man in the home, though Rodriguez could not provide any details. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

In October deputies were called to the same home in response to a suicidal call from the man’s father, Rodriguez said.

The man who was shot this morning was on leave from deployment to Afghanistan. He was in Tucson to attend his father’s funeral.
