A Mexican man was arrested Wednesday at the Port of Nogales for attempting to smuggle more than 8,000 pounds of marijuana into the United States.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the commercial facility sent a 30-year-old Nogales, Sonora, man for additional inspection of a tractor-trailer rig he was driving. After a drug dog alerted to the presence of drugs in the trailer, officers found 298 bales of marijuana worth more than $4 million among a shipment of bell peppers.
The drugs and truck were seized by officers. The driver was turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.
