Installation begins today for a new set of traffic control signals along El Camino Del Cerro west of Silverbell Road near the Northwest Fire District’s Station No. 32.

The traffic control devices will be located about 450 feet in either direction from the fire station, Capt. Adam Goldberg, spokesman for the Northwest Fire District, said in a news release.

“Given the natural setting and terrain of the neighborhood, the devices will be set high enough to ensure drivers can clearly see the signs from an appropriate distance,” Goldberg said.

This system will activate and warn drivers traveling along El Camino Del Cerro that fire apparatus will be leaving the station for an emergency call.  The light system will only be activated when crew are responding with lights and sirens to a fire or medical emergency, he said.

The Northwest Fire District in partnership with Pima County undertook the safety initiative.
