One man and two toddlers were injured in a crash involving a semi on westbound Interstate 10 north of Cortaro Road.

All lanes have re-opened, according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

The man was driving a state agency transport van westbound on I-10 when he rear-ended a semi, said Capt. Adam Goldberg, a Northwest fire spokesman.

The toddlers, who were in car seats, had injuries that were minor to serious, Goldberg said.

The driver was trapped in the van briefly but was extricated by firefighters, Goldberg said.

He has serious injuries but is stable, Goldberg said.

The driver and kids were taken by ambulance to the trauma center at the University of Arizona Medical Center.

The driver was not related to the children.
