Spencer a 7-week-old Chihuahua, died after someone fed him a poison-laced hot dog earlier this month.

Now police are asking for the public’s help to find the person who killed the puppy.

The owner put Spencer in her yard at about 6:45 a.m. March 10 while she ran errands. When she returned three hours later, Spencer was dead. The woman lives in the area of West Lambert Lane and North La Cañada Drive, said Lt. Kara Riley, spokeswoman for the Oro Valley Police Department.

The owner took the body to a veterinarian where a necropsy was performed. The vet determined the cause of death was a strychnine-laced hot dog, Riley said.

The OVPD Criminal Investigations Unit is seeking the public’s assistance with finding the person who killed Spencer.

Anyone with information should call 88-CRIME, 911 or 229-4900.
