Tucson police have released the name of a 28-year-old man struck and killed while crossing a midtown street Saturday afternoon.

Matthew Bono was crossing East Speedway at North Richey Boulevard in a marked crosswalk just before 3 p.m. when he was struck by a 1977 half-ton pickup truck traveling eastbound on Speedway, Sgt. Maria Hawke a Tucson police spokeswoman said in a news release.

The driver of the truck, 74-year-old Edward George, did not initially stop after the crash, but witnesses followed him and got his attention and George returned to the scene of the crash, the release said.

Bono was pronounced dead at the scene.

George was arrested on one count of suspicion of second degree murder and booked into the Pima County jail.

"There were indications that he was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the collision," the release said.
