Tucson police have identified the pedestrian killed at a midtown intersection early this morning.

Desmond F. Canchola, 23, suffered life-threatening injuries at about 4:30 a.m. when he was struck at the intersection of North Tucson Boulevard and East Grant Road, said Sgt. Pete Dugan, a spokesman for the Tucson Police Department.

He was taken by ambulance to a local hospital where he died.

The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene.

Investigators determined the vehicle involved was westbound in the curb lane of East Grant Road and the light for westbound traffic was green.

“It appears the pedestrian was struck while crossing Grant Road in the crosswalk, against the traffic light,” Dugan said.

The intersection was closed for about five hours this morning while detectives investigated the incident.
