A police search of an eastside neighborhood near Santa Rita High School found no one with a gun near the campus, a district official said.

The high school at 3951 S. Pantano Road was placed in lockdown Wednesday as a precaution after police received a tip about a person with a gun near the campus, said Cara Rene, a Tucson Unified School District spokeswoman.

Santa Rita High School, 3951 S. Pantano Road near East Escalante Road, remained in lockdown during a search of the campus, said Rene.

“A concerned citizen called the police department this morning when they saw someone in vicinity of the campus take a weapon out of a backpack and was looking at it,” Rene said.

"All students were unharmed during the incident and were kept safe in classrooms and the school auditorium," said Rene in a news release.

The school was in lockdown from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., which disrupted AIMS testing. Officials contacted the Arizona Department of Education and received approval to reschedule AIMS testing for Friday, said Rene.

Counselors will be available on campus Thursday for students who may need to talk about the lockdown, Rene said. District safety officers also will be on campus to ease parents' and students' concerns, she said.
