Tucson police have identified a 32-year-old man who was shot and killed outside a midtown liquor store early Saturday morning.

Jesus Salaz and other patrons of the Wooden Nickel Tavern, 1908 S. Country Club Road near East Silverlake Road, were leaving at closing time around 2 a.m. when an altercation occurred outside a liquor store down the block.

Multiple shots were fired and Salaz was struck and killed, Sgt. Chris Widmer, spokesman for the Tucson Police Department, said in a news release.

“Officers determined that at least one of the individuals involved in the incident had prior gang affiliations,” Widmer said.

Anyone with information about the shooting or suspects involved should call 911 or 88-CRIME.
