A training exercise at the Tucson Convention Center continues until 1 p.m. today.
Members of the Tucson Police Department Specialized Response Division, the SWAT Team and the Explosive and Hazardous Device Detail (a.k.a. Bomb Squad) are running scenarios of “high-risk or armed resistance type incidents ... in light of recent events that have occurred in Aurora, Colo., and Boston,” Sgt. Chris Widmer, spokesman for the TPD, said in a news release.
Other agencies assisting in the training are the Pima Regional Bomb Squad, the Tucson Fire Department, the TPD Hostage Negotiation Unit and the 91st Civil Support Team of Arizona’s Army National Guard.
