A Mexican national is facing charges that he tried to smuggle nearly 24 pounds of heroin through a Nogales port of entry.
Ramon Alejandro Jimenez-Espinoza, 21, was sent to a secondary inspection when he tried to cross Friday in a Hyundai sedan at the Dennis DeConcini Port of Entry, according to a news release from Customs and Border Protection.
After a drug dog alerted to the presence of drugs within Jimenez-Espinoza’s vehicle’s bumpers, officers found 16 packages of heroin worth close to $326,000.
The drugs and vehicle were seized. Jimenez-Espinoza was turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.
