A small plane crashed late Wednesday morning at Tucson International Airport.

The twin-engine Piper aircraft crashed about 11 a.m., shortly after takeoff, said Viki Matthews, spokeswoman for the airport.

The only occupant of the plane, the pilot, was injured and taken to a hospital by a Tucson Fire Department medic unit, said Capt. Barrett Baker, spokesman for TFD.

The wreckage remained on the runway awaiting the arrival of investigators from the National Transportation Safety Board, but passenger traffic was not affected, Matthews said.
