A fire at a south side bar early this morning is under investigation.

A passerby called 911 just before 2:30 a.m. to report the fire at CJ’s Sports Bar and Grill, 4581 S. 12th Avenue at West Ohio Street.

Smoke and flames were coming from the building when firefighters arrived on scene, Capt. Barrett Baker, spokesman for the Tucson Fire Department, said in a news release.

“Due to the size of the building and house that was connected to it, crews entered from two different locations, trying to locate the fire as well as searching both areas for any people that could be inside,” Baker said. “The ladder crew on scene controlled the utilities to the building and also cut a hole in the roof to allow the smoke to escape and reduce the temperatures inside.”

The fire was mostly contained to an enclosed patio.

No one was found inside the bar or attached house, which was unoccupied.

It took 10 units and 26 firefighters 21 minutes to control the blaze.

TFD investigators were on scene, but the cause and origin of the fire and an estimate of damage have not yet been determined.
