A toddler nearly drowned Sunday afternoon in a backyard pool on Tucson's southwest side.

Crews from Drexel Heights Fire District responded to the home in the 6800 block of south Paseo de las Aguilas, near Valencia Road and Camino de Oeste, around 4 p.m. and found the toddler next to an in-ground pool, Tracy Koslowski, an agency spokeswoman said in a news release.

A neighbor had performed CPR on the girl, who is almost 2 years old, and she was conscious, the release said.

She was taken to the University of Arizona Medical Center.

She is in serious condition and has fluid in her lungs.

This is the first water-related incident in Pima County in 2014.
