A trio of suspected bank robbers didn’t get very far before being nabbed by police Tuesday.
The men were arrested at Rillito Vista Park just off Interstate 10, less than six miles from the National Bank of America, 11853 W. Marana Road.
Tuesday afternoon, just before 3:30, two men entered the bank. One was armed with a crowbar. The other had a semi-automatic handgun, Sgt. Jose Alvarez, spokesman for the Marana Police Department, said in a news release. The men jumped over the counters and demanded money from the tellers.
The men were seen driving away from the bank in a tan Ford sedan.
Officers searched the area and found the car near the park. They arrested three men running from the car, Alvarez said.
Ardell Dwayne Lewis, 36, Phillip Michael Willis, 28, and David Leland Barton, 24, were booked into the Pima County jail. They each are facing one count of armed robbery, aggravated robbery, first-degree burglary, and three counts of aggravated assault.
