An arrest has been made in a motorcycle crash last week that left one man dead.

Sherman Kidd Jr., 59, was arrested at his home Thursday after being released from the hospital. He was booked into the Pima County jail and faces one count of manslaughter in connection to the Sept. 7 crash that killed Michael Bell, 53, Deputy Jesus Bañuelos, spokesman for the Pima County Sheriff’s Department, said in a news release.

At about 4:45 p.m. Sept. 7, Bell and a friend were riding motorcycles on Bopp Road west of Kinney Road when Kidd Jr. rode up behind the pair and struck Bell, causing him to lose control, according to a previous sheriff’s department statement.

Kidd Jr. reportedly had been speeding and passing cars in a no-passing zone before the crash.

Bell and Kidd Jr. were taken to a local hospital where Bell was pronounced dead. Kidd Jr. had serious injuries. Neither man was wearing a helmet.

The third motorcyclist, who was riding with Bell, was uninjured and left the scene after his friend was struck, according to officials.
