Tucson police Lt. Maria Hawke, a former spokeswoman for the department, was fired for “untruthfulness,” an official said Friday.

Hawke was fired April 9 after an internal affairs investigation, said Sgt. Pete Dugan, a department spokesman.

Dugan did not elaborate further about the investigation, stating he could not because of Hawke’s due process, including her right to an appeal.

Officers can appeal personnel issues through the city’s Civil Service Commission.

Hawke was a sergeant who worked in the department’s public affairs office, and then was promoted to lieutenant assigned to the Downtown Division.
