Police are still trying to figure out who shot a man on the southside despite having interviewed half a dozen witnesses.

Just after 11:30 p.m. Thursday, deputies responded to the 3100 block of East Benson Highway near South Country Club Road, after receiving a 911 call about a shooting.

They found a Hispanic man lying next to his car in the parking lot of a trailer park. He had been shot in the abdomen and was taken to a local hospital where he remains in stable, but critical condition, said Deputy Jesus Bañuelos, spokesman for the Pima County Sheriff’s Department.

Witnesses said there was an altercation in the parking lot when the shots were fired, but the wounded man was not involved in the fight, Bañuelos said. None of the six or seven witnesses could identify the shooter.

The investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information about the shooting should call 911 or 88-CRIME.
