A 22-year-old convenience store clerk is hospitalized in critical condition after being found early Friday with life-threatening injuries after being stabbed.

Police say a customer found the wounded clerk at about 1 a.m. and call 911.

The incident was initially reported as an armed robbery, but Sgt. Chris Widmer says police now don’t think it was connected to a robbery.

The assailant reportedly fled on foot.

Police have only a vague description of the attacker, saying he was a man wearing a hooded sweatshirt.

Spokesmen for the Tucson Police Department could not be reached for additional information about the location of the store or an update on the condition of the clerk because the public information office was closed Friday.
