A Tucson teen had police scrambling this morning after she falsely reported two men tried to abduct her.

The 13-year-old is a student at Wakefield Middle School, 101 W. 44th Street. She told authorities two masked men in a white van approached her as she walked to school and asked if she wanted a ride, Sgt. Chris Widmer, spokesman for the Tucson Police Department, said. The girl said she told the men, ‘No,’ and they drove off. She also said she heard screaming and yelling coming from inside the van.

Eventually, however, “she admitted she fabricated the story because she was late for school,” Widmer said.

Investigators have not yet decided whether the girl will face charges for making a false report.
