A man who tried unsuccessfully to rob a Vail drug store Sunday was arrested this morning.

Sean Rivera, 18, was booked into the Pima County jail Thursday morning. He faces one count of attempted robbery, said Deputy Courtney Rodriguez, spokeswoman for the Pima County Sheriff’s Department.

Rivera fled the store in a gold-color SUV and deputies are still looking for the driver.

At about 4:30 a.m. Sunday, Rivera entered the Walgreens drug store at 13542 E. Colossal Cave Road near East Mary Ann Cleveland Way in Vail and asked a cashier for a pack of cigarettes.

“As the store clerk rang up the cigarettes, the suspect told her he left his wallet in his car, threatened her and told the employee to empty the cash register drawer,” Rodriguez said in a news release. “The suspect abruptly left from the store and got into a vehicle.”

Rivera did not appear to have a weapon and left empty-handed.

He drove away in a gold-color SUV.

Anyone with information about the driver of the SUV should call 911 or 88-CRIME.
